Psalm 85: Like Attract Like.

Pastor YC's insights to Psalm 85: Outlining the Psalm

PS 85:1 You showed favor to your land, O LORD; you restored the fortunes of Jacob.
PS 85:2 You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins. Selah
PS 85:3 You set aside all your wrath and turned from your fierce anger.

Remembrance of God's past acts




PS 85:4 Restore us again, O God our Savior, and put away your displeasure toward us.
PS 85:5 Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger through all generations?
PS 85:6 Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?
PS 85:7 Show us your unfailing love, O LORD, and grant us your salvation.

Lament and cry to God for present deliverance


PS 85:8 I will listen to what God the LORD will say; he promises peace to his people, his saints--but let them not return to folly.
PS 85:9 Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land.
PS 85:10 Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other.
PS 85:11 Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven.
PS 85:12 The LORD will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest.
PS 85:13 Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.

Confidence and affirmation of God's response.

My insight:

Pastor really gave a clear outline of the psalm.
What spoke to me was
10 Love and faithfulness meet together;
righteousness and peace kiss each other.

"Opposites attract"
That's what the world tells us, that in relationships, we are strong attracted to people who are very different from us. They used it to explain why good girls seem to be attracted to bad guys.

I say, from my observations, nothing is further from the truth and the Word of God.
In fact, I would say that "like attract like".
Meaning, you will befriend people who are like-minded.
For example, if you are a person who is unable to draw boundaries, you will attract people who are abusive and disrespectful, because they too, cannot draw boundaries.

Which is why God cannot show His presence among the Israelites who sinned and rebelled against Him, because there is simply nothing to attract Him to them.
In the same way, this is why we frown on unyoked relationships (christian and non-christian BGR), because there is nothing common between darkness and light.

In fact, we will be slowly conformed to the darkness, because of the principle of "like attract like".

Let's learn to be like-minded with Christ, and allow Him to transform our minds so that His presence can dwell within us!
